Who we are
Kept Japan is an independent Japanese retailer of pre-owned and vintage goods, based in Fukui Prefecture, Japan. We have sold internationally since 2021 through major marketplaces, and this store is our own shop — the same inventory, the same people, without the middleman.
Every item you see here is one of a kind. We do not carry multiples, and when an item sells, it is gone. Before an item ships, it passes through our hands: we inspect it against the listing, and if anything does not match, we tell you before shipping and you can cancel for a full refund.
What we sell
We are a variety store, not a specialist. What we look for is the same in every category: items where Japan's domestic market is unusually deep and unusually well kept.
- Watches — Seiko, Citizen, Casio and other Japanese makers, including models never sold outside Japan
- Cameras — compact, film and digital bodies and lenses from Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Fujifilm, Pentax
- Trading cards — Pokémon, Dragon Ball, One Piece, Yu-Gi-Oh! and sports cards, singles and graded slabs
- Music and film — Japanese-pressed vinyl, CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays, concert goods and memorabilia
- Anime, toys and figures — character goods, dolls and dollhouse miniatures, plush, action figures
- Fashion — jackets and coats, bags, kimono and textiles from Japanese and international labels
- Golf clubs, fishing tackle, tools — Japanese-market putters and irons, reels and rods, hand tools
- Books, ceramics and household goods — art and photo books, magazines, pottery, tableware
Japanese owners keep boxes, papers and receipts, and they service what they own. That is the reason a 30-year-old watch here still runs, and why the box is usually still in the closet.
How we source
We buy from established Japanese resale platforms and second-hand dealers. Every item is inspected on arrival before it is shipped to you.
We describe what we found — not what we assume. If a watch has not been serviced, we say so. If a lens has haze, we say so and we photograph it. If an item is untested, we write "untested" rather than "working". We do not represent items as authenticated by a third party unless a third-party certificate is physically included and shown in the photographs.

The Antique Dealer Licence is the licence required under Japanese law (古物営業法) to trade in second-hand goods. It is issued by the prefectural Public Safety Commission and is what allows us to buy and resell pre-owned items legally.
